Palliative Care Report Card

America’s Care of Serious Illness: 2015 State-by-State Report Card on Access to Palliative Care in Our Nation’s Hospitals provides an analysis of whether seriously ill patients in the United States are receiving equitable access to palliative care services in hospitals.

The goal of the website was to provide a brief overview of the accompanying 32-page report. It was designed with policy makers, healthcare providers and the media in mind. We developed an interactive choropleth map, which was color-coded to reflect each state’s grade. Lines, boxes, excerpts and white space were used to establish visual hierarchy along with simple interactive elements like accordion menus and tabs to maintain visual interest and legibility on a very text heavy page.
